Well Hip Hop first and foremost is a culture, which is defined as “the arts and other manifestations of human intellectual achievement regarded collectively.” There is nothing artful about mumble rap because anyone can do it. Grow up and get some damn bars if you wanna call what you do Hip Hop. I refuse to tell you it’s okay to verbally shit your pants. It’s okay to shit your pants when you’re six months old. What you do as an infant, is not what you do when you’re an adult. Why do you think biting (copying) someone else’s style was so verboten back then? Because the art was so new that everybody needed to be original in order for the boundaries to be pushed and for it to expand into maturation so copying was just holding the culture back. It was years, decades even, before rap as an art form reached it’s apex and MC’s finally realized all the different things you could do. Anything you did on the mic was okay as long as you rhymed and stayed on beat. Let me make this as crystal clear as I possibly can because I’m seriously tired as fuck of people saying this dumb shit and using this false equivalency That was back when the art form was brand spanking new. Now Pain 1’s point is that the older rap didn’t have to have really skillful artistic wordplay and rhyme structure in every bar, so rap today shouldn’t be obligated to either. The very first thing he did that tipped off my bullshit meter was take a point that The Team Backpack video makes about punchlines and rhyme schemes and their effect on crowds and proceeds to make a comparison with a video of some super old-school 70’s rap with a guy doing a live show spitting what was at that time the nonstop party-rockin’ hotness. That being said, your boy Pain 1 articulates well but doesn’t fully make his point, and I’ll proceed to explain why right now. I think my position is easily ascertained due to a few previous entries, two in particular being about the subjects of objective skill, and the industry’s drive to flood the market with substandard music, respectively. The rebuttal video that I came across was made by someone named DJ Pain 1, who I know nothing about other than the fact that as he states in the video, he is a fan of Lil’ Yachty, Rich Homie Quan and Young Thug. One video (The Idiocy of Mumble Rap) came from Team Backpack, an organization known for highlighting MC’s with a great deal of objective lyrical skill, usually delivered by way of videos featuring ciphers and punchline heavy verses with a focus on wordplay. So recently two videos have surfaced debating the merits of so-called “Mumble Rap” and the value or lack thereof of the rappers who are purveyors of it. “Don’t push what I do off to the side just because it’s different and say it ain’t Hip Hop”- Nelly The end results: We were able to consistently and predictably gain followers averaging between $0.25-$0.35 per follower (including a bulk of the promotion being done in high cost English speaking countries such as United States, United Kingdom, Australia, & Canada) resulting in around 4,000 new, engaged followers/month on Instagram.“Wack: weak, of poor quality”- Malibu’s Most Wanted We were able to bring out the heart of his music through paid ads by editing & optimizing his existing videos and properly researching and structuring his ad campaigns.
